US Special Envoy Sergio Gor arrives in Sri Lanka

U.S. Special Envoy for South and Central Asia, Sergio Gor, has landed in Sri Lanka for an official visit, as reported by the US Embassy in Colombo. His trip to Sri Lanka and the Maldives will take place from today, March 19, until March 24. The purpose of the visit is to hold high-level discussions that focus on enhancing cooperation in the Indian Ocean area, according to the statement. While in Sri Lanka, Envoy Gor plans to meet with senior leaders to highlight the significance of the U.S.-Sri Lanka partnership and to boost collaboration in important sectors, as stated by the U.S. Embassy in Colombo. These meetings aim to back U.S. initiatives to protect essential sea routes and secure ports, strengthen beneficial trade and commercial relationships, and promote a free, open, and prosperous Indo-Pacific for the benefit of both Sri Lanka and the United States. In addition, during his time in the Maldives, Special Envoy Gor will engage with high-ranking government officials to reaffirm the U.S. commitment to their bilateral relationship, enhance security collaboration, and discuss ways to assist in developing critical infrastructure and boosting economic growth in the Maldives. This visit will also mark 60 years of diplomatic relations between the United States and the Maldives, the embassy noted.
