The Government of Sri Lanka has started a new data collection program to determine the fuel needs of transport service providers involved in food distribution. This initiative aims to improve planning in response to challenges caused by the Middle East conflict. The Ministry of Trade, Commerce, Food Security, and Cooperative Development explained that this program will help make the food distribution process more efficient and ensure that decisions on fuel allocation are informed by accurate data. The program is designed for transport service providers who have not registered with any other ministry or official government database related to transport or logistics. Those who are already registered should continue to use the official channels to submit their data. The main goals of this data collection are to evaluate the fuel demand in the sector, identify the challenges transport providers face, and create recommendations based on trustworthy information. The Ministry also noted that the data collection is voluntary. After analyzing the data, the findings will be sent to the Ministry of Power and Energy and the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) for further action. Service providers can submit their data through a Google Form that can be accessed via a specific link. The Ministry encourages all eligible service providers to share the necessary information.
