President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has made an important appeal to electric vehicle owners in light of the current energy situation in Sri Lanka. He is encouraging these owners to charge their vehicles during the day. This request is aimed at lowering the high electricity demand that occurs from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Dissanayake shared these thoughts at a press conference about the energy situation in the country. He assured that there is no need for power cuts right now. According to the President, the current plans from officials do not include any scheduled power cuts. However, he warned that the ongoing conflict in the Middle East makes it hard to predict future electricity limits. For now, there are no planned outages, but future decisions will depend on how the situation unfolds. Officials say that the highest electricity demand in Sri Lanka happens between 6:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. The rise in electric vehicle usage has added to this demand, as many owners charge their cars during those evening hours. This has increased the electricity load by about 300 megawatts during peak times compared to previous years. Therefore, officials are asking electric vehicle owners to charge their vehicles during the day, when there is extra electricity available, to help keep the grid balanced.
