Today, a ceremony took place at the Asia World Port Terminal in Ahlon Township, Yangon Port, to celebrate the donation of 500 metric tons (10,000 bags) of rice from Myanmar to Sri Lanka, which has recently suffered from a cyclone. The event was attended by Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein and other officials. It began with a speech from Dr. Than Soe, Myanmar’s Deputy Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement. U Ye Min Aung, the Chairman of the Myanmar Rice Federation, shared details about the plans and preparations for sending the rice. Prabashini Ponnamperuma, the Sri Lankan Ambassador to Myanmar, thanked the Myanmar government and people for their support. Chief Minister U Soe Thein then presented the official documents for the donation to the Sri Lankan Ambassador. The Chief Minister and other officials also examined the containers that would transport the 500 metric tons of rice.
