Fonseka should be arrested immediately – Gammanpila

Leader of the Pivithuru Hela Urumaya (PHU), Parliamentarian Udaya Gammanpila says that former Army Commander Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka should be arrested immediately for treason in accordance with the Penal Code.

Speaking at a press conference in Colombo today (4), he said that the Minister of Regional Development must be arrested for covering up war crimes for a whole 8 years, just for saying that he knew General Jagath Jayasuriya committed war crimes.

The UPFA Colombo District MP claimed that Sarath Fonseka had betrayed the country to separatists the first time when he made a statement about ‘white flags’ and that now he is doing it again by accusing Jagath jayasuriya.

However, he said that regardless of whether war crimes have been committed, Fonseka should be arrested as if he is wrong it is treason against the state and if he is right he can be arrested for covering it up.

Gammanpila stated that those who had questioned as to why Mahinda Rajapaksa had Sarath Fonseka arrested in 2010 are now questioning as to why he was released.
