Sri Lanka's Foreign Minister, Vijitha Herath, met with the Russian Ambassador, Levan S. Dzhagaryan, today (13) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism. This meeting came after sanctions on Russia were lifted, which allows Sri Lanka to explore purchasing Russian oil. The aim is to address the fuel supply issues caused by conflict in the Middle East. Minister Herath and Ambassador Dzhagaryan discussed the possibility of acquiring fuel from Russia to secure Sri Lanka's energy needs. The ambassador agreed to relay Sri Lanka's request to his government promptly. He also assured that he would work with the necessary agencies to facilitate the process. During their talks, the ambassador expressed that Russia would be ready to support Sri Lanka whenever needed. Also present at the meeting were Deputy Minister of Labour, Finance and Planning Anil Jayantha, Chairman of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation D. J. Rajakaruna, along with ministry secretaries and other officials.
