Today, on the 13th of October, Sri Lanka destroyed close to 200 kilograms of narcotics connected to completed court cases. This destruction took place at the incinerator in Lactowatte, Wanathawilluwa. The drugs that were destroyed were associated with cases that had been settled at the Colombo High Court and the Balapitiya Magistrate’s Court. Along with the drugs, materials from nearly 1,500 cases at the Government Analyst’s Department were also eliminated during this process. Earlier in the day, officers from the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) secured a collection of drugs and narcotic pills from Court No. 05 at the Aluthkade Courts Complex, doing so under strict security measures. The PNB reported that the seized items included 40 kilograms and 539 grams of heroin, 132 kilograms of ketamine, 55 grams of cocaine, and 3,482 narcotic pills. The drugs were transported to the incinerator with protection from the Special Task Force (STF) while being overseen by Deputy Inspector General Ashoka Dharmasena of the Police Narcotics Bureau. Around 10 a.m., the narcotics, narcotic pills, and associated case materials arrived at the incinerator, where they were destroyed by officers from the Government Analyst’s Department, officials from the National Dangerous Drugs Control Board, and police personnel, all under the guidance of the Balapitiya Magistrate and the Puttalam Additional Magistrate.
