Iranian state television has reported a significant explosion in a square in Tehran, where protests were expected to take place. Footage and images released by IRIB showed thick smoke rising over the city. It was reported that at least one high-ranking official, Iran’s national security chief Ali Larijani, was present at the protest marches for Al Quds Day. The Al Quds Day marches began after the Iranian Revolution in 1979 and occur on the last Friday of Ramadan, with similar demonstrations happening worldwide. Copyright ©2026 Ada Derana.
