Corruption probe against Shasheendra Rajapaksa concluded- Bribery Comm. informs court
The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) announced to the Colombo Magistrate’s Court today that their inquiry into former State Minister Shasheendra Rajapaksa and other suspects, who are currently on bail related to a corruption case, has been completed. During the court session, Shasheendra Rajapaksa and the other suspects appeared before the judge, as reported by Ada Derana. Officials from the Bribery Commission stated that the investigation has wrapped up, and the files have been sent to the Commission. They also requested a date to update the court on the case’s progress. After reviewing the information provided, the Magistrate scheduled the case to be revisited on July 10. The Bribery Commission has accused former Minister Shasheendra Rajapaksa and two others of corruption under the Anti-Corruption Act, claiming they illegally received Rs. 8,850,000 as compensation for damage done to his political office. This office was located on land owned by the Mahaweli Authority, which was targeted by protesters during the ‘Aragalaya’ movement.
