Power restoration in Colombo 9, Colombo 14, and several areas in Gampaha will take longer due to a strike by trade unions. This strike began at 3:00 p.m. yesterday (September 9) and is based on eight demands, including the lack of proper appointment letters for employees assigned to new institutions after the restructuring of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB). The National Employees' Union of the CEB reports that this action will last for 24 hours. Kosala Abeysinghe, Chairman of the CEB Technical Engineers' Union, warned that the strike could escalate if their demands are not met. In response, Pubudu Niroshan Hedigalla, Head of the CEB Transformation Task Force, assured that transferring the CEB to new companies will not affect employee rights or privileges.
