Putin, in a phone call with Trump, shares proposals to end Iran war quickly
Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke with U.S. President Donald Trump on the phone on Monday. During their conversation, he shared ideas for quickly resolving the conflict in Iran, according to Kremlin foreign policy aide Yuri Ushakov. Ushakov told reporters that the two leaders also talked about the situation in Ukraine. He mentioned that Russia's recent successes should encourage Ukraine's negotiators to seek a resolution. Ushakov described their discussion as "very substantial" and noted it would likely help future cooperation between the two nations. Putin offered several suggestions for a swift political and diplomatic resolution to the Iranian conflict, which included talks he has had with leaders from Gulf states, Iran's president, and other nations. Trump shared his views on the developments in the U.S.-Israeli operation, calling the discussion a "very substantial and, without doubt, useful exchange of ideas." Ushakov stated that Trump believed it was important for the U.S. to see a "quick end to the conflict in Ukraine with a ceasefire and a lasting solution." He remarked that the situation in Ukraine showed "Russian troops advancing quite successfully," which should lead Kyiv's government to finally consider negotiating a settlement. Ushakov also mentioned that the two presidents discussed Venezuela's situation in relation to global oil markets.
