President Anura Kumara Dissanayake announced plans to improve Sri Lanka's public transport system by creating a national policy. He emphasized the government's goal of building a public transport network that is safe, efficient, comfortable, and dependable for the people. Currently, the government is developing strategies to add new buses that meet proper standards while phasing out older models from the system. Although this upgrade will take time, the President believes that with careful planning over the coming years, a high-quality bus fleet can be provided to the public, which is a major goal for the government. These comments were made during a ceremony at Temple Trees this morning (10), where the President presented appointment letters to 199 new drivers and 342 conductors from all districts for the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB). He symbolically handed out appointment letters to some of the new employees. The President reminisced about the strong connection between the people of Sri Lanka and the SLTB in the past. He expressed hope that the new appointees would help restore the organization, which has faced challenges due to political interference and improper practices, back into a reliable public transport service. He also congratulated all the newly appointed staff.
