The Cabinet of Ministers in Sri Lanka has given its approval to increase the financial aid for building houses under a resettlement programme. This programme helps families who have been moved from areas at risk of landslides or those who have already been impacted by them. Its goal is to find families living in dangerous landslide zones and help them relocate to safer places. Beneficiaries of this programme can receive money to build their own homes using a method called beneficiary-driven housing construction. Previously, the maximum funding for a single house was Rs. 1.6 million, but the government has now raised this amount to Rs. 2.5 million. This change was made following a proposal from the President, who is also the Minister of Defence, and it was approved by the Cabinet.
