A group of astrologers is raising questions about the government's choice not to release the "Avurudu Nekath Seettuwa," which lists the lucky times for this year's Sinhala and Tamil New Year. Astrologer Ravishanka Senanayake spoke to the media, saying this issue came from a decision made by the Secretary of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs. Senanayake criticized the government for telling the media that this year’s "Nekath Seettuwa" would not be shared. He asked why the Ministry sought data on auspicious times from experts if they did not plan to publish it. He highlighted that if the government collected this information, they should provide an official schedule. The Sinhala and Tamil New Year, celebrated in April, is the most important cultural festival in Sri Lanka, and it follows specific rituals and timings. Usually, a special committee from the Ministry of Cultural Affairs announces a set of lucky times for everyone to follow. However, reports suggest that the Department of Cultural Affairs has disbanded the New Year Auspicious Time Committee for this year. As a result, it appears that the department will not issue the "Avurudu Nekath Seettuwa" this year.
