The USS Abraham Lincoln, an aircraft carrier, was spotted off the coast of Oman over the weekend, moving northwest toward the Strait of Hormuz. The European Union's Copernicus Sentinel-2 mission released images of the ship. The U.S. Central Command shared pictures on X, showing the carrier operating at sea. The Lincoln is one of two aircraft carriers recently sent to the area, and it is the only one relatively near to Iranian waters. Currently, the U.S. naval presence in the region includes more than 30 warships, as reported by U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM). Admiral Brad Cooper, the CENTCOM Commander, mentioned that U.S. and allied forces gained complete air and sea control over Iran just six days after the start of the campaign. He noted that U.S. forces sank over 30 Iranian ships, which included a drone carrier similar in size to a World War II aircraft carrier, and targeted nearly 200 locations within Iranian territory during the initial phase. Recent updates show that the number of damaged Iranian ships has increased to at least 43, and the total targets hit during the campaign has surpassed 3,000 as of early March 2026. The USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72), along with Carrier Air Wing 9 (CVW-9), has been active in the Arabian Sea since January 2026.
