An 82-year-old British tourist has lost his life after being hit by a train this evening (09) while on a railway bridge between the Wadduwa and Pinwatta railway stations. The Pinwatta Police reported that the victim was with a group that included two other foreign tourists and three Sri Lankan nationals, including a young child. They had visited a nearby beach and then climbed onto the railway bridge, thinking it was no longer in use. While they were on the bridge, an express train coming from Beliatta towards Colombo approached. The group tried to get off the track, but the train struck the British tourist, causing him to fall into the Pinwatta canal. He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police. The others in the group managed to jump into the canal and escape. A foreign woman, a young child, and a Sri Lankan man were injured and taken to the Panadura Base Hospital for medical care, police added. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
