India beat New Zealand to become first team to win three T20 world titles
India has made history by winning the T20 World Cup for the third time, defeating New Zealand by 96 runs on Sunday. This victory thrilled over 100,000 fans at the world's largest cricket stadium. Batting first after losing the toss, India scored a remarkable 255 runs for the loss of 5 wickets at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Opener Sanju Samson dazzled with a fantastic 89 runs off just 46 balls, hitting eight sixes. New Zealand struggled in their run chase, getting all out for 159 runs in 19 overs. Tim Seifert was the standout for New Zealand, scoring 52 runs off 26 balls. India previously won the T20 World Cup in 2007 and 2024, while New Zealand was seeking its first title. New Zealand had also been the runner-up in 2021, losing to Australia in Dubai. India's total was the third-highest in T20 World Cup history, but they could have been even more pleased, as they reached 203 runs for just one wicket in 15 overs. However, James Neesham took three important wickets in the 16th over, dismissing Samson, Ishan Kishan, who scored 54 off 25 balls, and captain Suryakumar Yadav for a golden duck. Abhishek Sharma contributed with a quick 52 runs off 21 balls, while Shivam Dube finished not out with 26 runs from just eight balls.
