Huge fire in Scotland triggers train chaos as historic building partially collapses
A large fire near one of Scotland's busiest train stations has affected a historic building in Glasgow, resulting in part of it collapsing. Firefighters rushed to Union Street just before 4 p.m. on Sunday after flames broke out on the ground floor of a four-story commercial structure. Dramatic photos showed bright orange flames licking at the dome of the building against the night sky, while a crane sprayed water onto the fire. Special tools were used to fight the blaze. Thankfully, no injuries have been reported. According to the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, at the peak of the emergency, 15 fire trucks and specialized units, including three high-reach vehicles and a water rescue team, were sent to the scene. Scotland’s First Minister John Swinney expressed serious concern about the incident and thanked emergency responders for their efforts in a post on X late Sunday, local time. He urged the public to follow travel advice, steer clear of the area, and remain safe. Glasgow Central Station, which offers train services throughout the UK, including direct routes to Edinburgh and London, is currently closed, leading to significant disruptions in train services, as noted by Britain’s National Rail.
