China says it opposes any targeting of new Iran Supreme leader
China stated on Monday that Iran's choice to name Mojtaba Khamenei as its new supreme leader, following the death of his father, is an internal issue. The country opposes any efforts to target him. Israel's military has warned that it will aim at any successor to former supreme leader Ali Khamenei, who was killed over a week ago during the initial US and Israeli strikes on Iran. Guo Jiakun, a spokesman for China’s foreign ministry, told the media that Iran's decision to appoint the younger Khamenei aligns with its constitution. He emphasized, “China opposes interference in the internal matters of other nations for any reason, and Iran's sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity must be honored,” when asked about the threats against the new leader. In recent days, both Israel and the United States have continued to strike Iran, which has responded with waves of missile and drone attacks on Israel and Gulf nations that host US forces.
