Sri Lanka grants one-month free visa to rescued Iranian sailors

The Sri Lankan government has decided to provide one-month free visas to a group of Iranian sailors who were rescued from their vessels. This will allow them to stay in the country under humanitarian protection, as announced by Minister of Public Security Ananda Wijepala. He mentioned that similar actions might be taken in the future, emphasizing that these measures are not meant to favor or disadvantage any specific group. The Minister explained that the decision concerning the Iranian sailors followed international conventions and maritime laws relevant to Sri Lanka. He also highlighted that the government's approach was in line with a non-aligned policy, ensuring that Sri Lanka remained neutral while fulfilling its humanitarian duties.
