The Sri Lanka Navy, in collaboration with the Kayts Police, has captured a large shipment of foreign cannabis weighing about 368kg at Suruvil beach on Kayts Island in Jaffna. This operation took place on Wednesday, March 4. A suspect was arrested, and a dinghy boat was also seized, according to the navy's report. The search was conducted by members of SLNS Kanchadewa from the Northern Naval Command, working with Kayts Police Station. During the inspection of the suspicious dinghy at the beach, the cannabis was found packed in 175 separate bundles. The total street value of the seized cannabis is estimated to be over Rs. 73 million. The arrested individual is a 35-year-old man from the Velanai area of Kayts Island. The navy stated that the suspect, dinghy, and cannabis have been handed over to Kayts Police Station for further legal action.
