MP claims two coal grinding machines not working at Norochcholai Power Plant
Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) Member of Parliament Nalin Bandara has reported that two coal grinding machines, known as pulverizers, at the Norochcholai Power Plant are not working. During a parliamentary session today (05), he stated that due to this issue, one unit of the power plant is running at a lower capacity. Bandara emphasized, "The situation at the Norochcholai Power Plant is serious. Two coal grinding machines have stopped working, which means one unit is not producing enough power. Additionally, there are reports of excessive smoke emissions." Furthermore, MP Hector Appuhamy claimed that operations at one unit of the Norochcholai Power Plant had to be halted because of the use of poor-quality coal. Speaking in Parliament today (05), he mentioned that thick black smoke is currently coming from the chimney of one unit. He alleged that the filter system in the chimney has been removed. "The chimney of one unit at Norochcholai is now emitting black smoke, affecting the nearby area. This is due to the burning of substandard coal, which led to the shutdown of operations in one unit yesterday (04). We have also learned that the filter system in the chimney is missing. This situation has caused significant environmental damage in the region," the MP stated.
