US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth stated today that the recent US strikes on Iran are not intended for “regime change,” although he recognized that the country's leadership has shifted. “This is not a so-called regime change war, but the regime did change, and the world is better off for it,” Hegseth remarked. He also claimed the US did not initiate the conflict, asserting that Iran has been attacking for many years in a “one-sided war against America.” “We didn’t start this war, but under President Trump, we are finishing it,” he added. During a special press briefing, Hegseth expressed sorrow over the loss of four military personnel. “They were the absolute best of America,” he said. “We must carry out the rest of this operation in a way that honors them—no apologies, no hesitation, with epic fury,” he continued. Additionally, he advised Iranian security forces to “choose wisely.” “We fight to win, and we do not waste time or lives,” he stressed. Hegseth also mentioned that peaceful nuclear goals “do not need to be hidden under mountains.”
