Funds allocated for provincial school infrastructure; PM urges submission of development requests
Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya announced that all provinces in Sri Lanka have received necessary funding to improve school infrastructure. She stressed the importance of using these funds wisely for school development and urged local officials to submit plans to fix current issues in school facilities. The Prime Minister shared these points during a friendly meeting with Muslim women in Wellawaya who were celebrating Ramadan on March 1, 2026, according to the PM’s Office. Later, she met with the Chief Sanghanayake of the Uva Wellassa area and the Chief Incumbent of Yudaganawa Rajamaha Viharaya, Venerable Rajakeeya Panditha Most Venerable Galtemwatte Nandarathana Nayaka Thero. During this meeting, she updated him on the progress of new education reforms. The Prime Minister mentioned that 50 vocational training centers with modern courses will be developed across all 25 districts, while also ensuring that vocational education gets proper recognition. She also announced that new education reforms for Grade 6 will start in 2027, with the Educational Publications Department of the Ministry of Education responsible for printing new textbooks.
