Sri Lankan nationals among 58 civilians with minor injuries after Iranian attacks on UAE
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) Ministry of Defence has reported that civilians were hurt in recent missile and drone strikes connected to Iran. Among the injured were one or more Sri Lankan nationals, who suffered minor injuries. In their official announcement, the ministry noted that three people from Pakistan, Nepal, and Bangladesh lost their lives in these incidents. A total of 58 individuals experienced minor injuries, including citizens from the UAE, Egypt, Ethiopia, the Philippines, Pakistan, Iran, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Azerbaijan, Yemen, Uganda, Eritrea, Lebanon, and Afghanistan. However, the report did not reveal how many Sri Lankans were among the injured or share any details about them. The ministry also mentioned that debris landed in various locations due to air defence actions against ballistic missiles and drones, causing some minor to moderate damage to civilian properties. They assured that they are fully prepared to handle any threats, emphasizing that the safety of citizens, residents, and visitors is a top priority. Furthermore, the ministry disclosed that since the beginning of the Iranian attacks on February 28, 2026, the UAE Air Force and Air Defence Forces have intercepted 165 ballistic missiles, two cruise missiles, and 541 Iranian drones. The statement highlighted that on the second day of the attacks, the UAE forces destroyed 20 ballistic missiles, while eight fell into the sea. They also intercepted and took down two cruise missiles and 311 drones, although 21 drones did hit civilian areas.
