PM Modi becomes first world leader to cross 100 million Instagram followers
On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi became the first leader in the world to reach over 100 million followers on Instagram. This achievement highlights his significant presence on social media. Modi, who started using the platform owned by Meta in 2014, has more than double the followers of the second place, US President Donald Trump, who has 43.2 million followers. Following Trump are Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto with 15 million, Brazil's president with 14.4 million, Turkey's President Tayyip Erdogan with 11.6 million, and Argentina's President Javier Milei with 6.4 million. Together, the follower count of these five leaders is still lower than Modi's total. In India, the difference between Modi and other political figures is also significant. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has 16.1 million followers, while Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, who is the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, has about 12.6 million. Additionally, surveys indicate that PM Modi has the highest approval ratings among selected global leaders. By December 2025, his approval rating was at 70 percent, according to Statista, making him number one. Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi was second with 63 percent, and Argentina's Javier Milei was third with 60 percent, while Trump was 11th with a 43 percent approval rating. A recent report from the US-based business intelligence company Morning Consult, based on surveys conducted from February 2 to February 8, 2026, showed Modi again in first place with a 67 percent approval rating. Czech Republic's Andrej Babis was second with 59 percent, Takaichi was fifth with 56 percent, and Trump was 11th with a 40 percent approval rating.
