The Indian Navy's sail training ship, INS Tarangini, will arrive in Trincomalee tomorrow and stay until March 02. After that, it will move to Colombo from March 06 to March 09. The purpose of this visit is to offer ocean sailing training and experience to trainee officers of the Sri Lanka Navy during both the harbour and sea phases, according to the High Commission of India in Colombo. Commander Nitin Gajjar is in charge of the ship, which is returning from Visakhapatnam after participating in the International Fleet Review 2026. The Indian Navy is one of the few navies worldwide still using sail training ships in this age of engines and gas turbines. While in Trincomalee, INS Tarangini will take on three officers and 25 trainee officers from the Sri Lanka Navy for ocean sailing training on its journey to Colombo.
