The Department of National Botanic Gardens has reported that Sri Lanka’s botanical gardens earned over Rs. 1 billion last year. They observed a notable rise in revenue from these gardens, linking it to the increasing number of tourists and the growth in the tourism industry. Even with the effects of Cyclone Ditwah in 2025, the revenue from the national gardens still reached Rs. 1.394 billion, marking a 7% rise from 2024. The department highlighted that the gardens played a key role in boosting tourism income and economic activities throughout 2025. The Department of National Botanic Gardens manages several gardens, including: • Royal Botanic Gardens, Peradeniya • Henarathgoda Botanic Garden, Gampaha • Seethawaka Wet Zone Botanic Garden.
