Ven. Ulapane Sumangala Thero gives statement to CID over Grade 6 module

Venerable Ulapane Sumangala Thero, who leads the Association of Educational Professionals, visited the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) this morning (22) to give a statement about the Grade 6 English language module issue. According to an Ada Derana reporter, the CID took Ven. Sumangala Thero’s statement for nearly two hours. Afterward, he spoke to the press and claimed that a plot was intentionally created to harm children’s futures. The Thero asserted that the problem did not stem from a mistake at the official level but was instead a well-planned act. He noted that creating and printing a syllabus-related module or textbook involves a long process with many reviews and checks by responsible authorities. Ven. Sumangala Thero stressed that such errors should never happen when it comes to children’s interests, and he said those who are responsible should face consequences and be punished.
