Justice Minister Harshana Nanayakkara confirmed that the Cabinet did not discuss the removal of the Attorney General during their recent meeting. He shared this information with the media after a meeting at the Vavuniya District Secretariat on the 22nd. Minister Nanayakkara pointed out that, despite various claims on social media, there was no Cabinet conversation about the Attorney General's removal. He mentioned that while some social media users are advocating for the Attorney General's protection, others have called for his removal. Some reports even suggested that both the Attorney General and the Minister of Justice should resign. “This is my statement. If there are complaints against the Minister of Justice or anyone else, the law in Sri Lanka treats everyone equally, and complaints can be filed,” he said. He also stressed that the government does not control what is shared on social media and reiterated that there has been no Cabinet discussion about removing the Attorney General or any impeachment proceedings.
