Anusha Palpita remanded
Anusha Palpita, who previously served as the Secretary to the Ministry of Mass Media and as the Chairman of the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL), has been ordered to remain in custody until February 6 by the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court. The order was issued by Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodharagama after reviewing the evidence provided by Bribery Commission officers and the defense lawyers for Palpita, according to a report by Ada Derana. He was arrested and brought to court today as part of an investigation. This inquiry was based on information from the Commission, which looked into why he did not reveal the source of assets worth Rs. 46 million. The Commission of Inquiry into Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) noted that Palpita visited the Bribery Commission this morning (23), where he was taken into custody after giving an initial statement. The arrest relates to accusations of acquiring assets and properties that are much greater than his reported income during a certain period. The investigation focuses on his assets that exceed what he legally earned in that time. Due to legal restrictions, the Ada Derana Editorial team has decided to disable comments on all articles related to ongoing court cases.
