Another suspect arrested over Jinthupitiya shooting incident

Another person has been taken into custody related to the shooting in Jinthupitiya, which left one individual dead and two young children injured on January 16, 2026, according to the police. The suspect was arrested yesterday, January 22, in the 95 Watta area within the Foreshore Police Division for helping with the crime. Police reported that during the arrest, they found 24 grams and 300 milligrams of crystal methamphetamine, commonly known as “Ice,” in his possession. The arrested individual is a 24-year-old man living in Colombo 13. He is expected to appear in front of the Maligakanda Magistrate’s Court today, January 23. Previously, on January 18 and 19, authorities arrested five people, including a woman, during special operations by the Foreshore Police Station in Jinthupitiya and Kotahena as part of the investigation into the January 16 shooting. The Foreshore Police are continuing to look into the matter.
