Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya conducted several important meetings on January 21 during the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, as stated by the PM’s Office. She met with Hadja Lahbib, the European Commissioner for Preparedness and Crisis Management. In their discussion, the Prime Minister thanked the European Union and its member countries for their support after Cyclone Ditwah hit Sri Lanka. She also shared key insights from the World Bank’s GRADE report and asked for ongoing EU assistance for Sri Lanka’s development and recovery efforts. Additionally, Prime Minister Amarasuriya met with Alexander De Croo from the United Nations Development Programme. She expressed gratitude for the long-standing relationship between Sri Lanka and the UN and recognized its help with flood relief and support for livelihoods. The Prime Minister noted that after receiving a mandate in the parliamentary elections, the government aims to meet the public's expectations through rebuilding the nation based on trust and good governance. She also reinforced the Government of Sri Lanka’s dedication to enhancing social protection systems and protecting vulnerable communities. Moreover, the Prime Minister engaged with Robert M. Uggla, the Chairman of A.P. Moller Holding. Their talks centered on collaborating with the private sector and exploring potential partnership areas. These meetings demonstrated Sri Lanka's ongoing commitment to working with international partners and global stakeholders to foster recovery, development, and sustained economic stability, according to the Prime Minister's Office.
