The Sri Lanka Navy has detained 13 people for illegally harvesting sea cucumbers while diving at night. This took place during a search operation in the Walaipadu sea area in Kilinochchi. The operation was conducted by the SLNS Buwaneka, part of the North Central Naval Command. The Navy reported that officers seized 1,108 illegally collected sea cucumbers, four dinghies, and diving equipment. The suspects, who are between 29 and 67 years old, are from Mannar, Pallimune, Thottaveli, and Eluthur. The detained individuals, along with the confiscated sea cucumbers, dinghies, and diving gear, have been sent to the Fisheries Inspector in Kilinochchi for further legal proceedings.
