The election for a new Chairman of the Weligama Pradeshiya Sabha has been delayed again due to ongoing issues. This marks the second postponement of the election process. Reports say the election could not take place because there were not enough members present. The meeting was set to start at 10:00 a.m. today (26), but only 22 out of the 45 members showed up. Because of this, the Southern Province Commissioner of Local Government had to call off the meeting once more. Originally, the election was planned for November 28, but it was postponed to today for the same reason of insufficient members. Unfortunately, the required number of members was still not met during today’s session. The role of Chairman has been empty since the recent murder of the former Chairman, Lasantha Wickramasekera, who was a member of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB).
