Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya thanked the Government of China for its quick help during Sri Lanka’s recent disaster response efforts. She shared her gratitude during a meeting with Wang Dongming, the Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (NPC) of China, at the Parliament complex. They talked about the strong ties between Sri Lanka and China and explored ways to work together in the future, according to the Office of the Prime Minister. Dr. Amarasuriya also mentioned that Sri Lanka has moved from the emergency rescue stage to the recovery and rebuilding phase after the disaster. She recognized the vital role played by volunteers and the international community during the rescue efforts. Vice Chairman Wang Dongming expressed his sorrow for those affected by the disaster. He assured that China would continue to provide support not only during the rescue phase but also in the recovery and reconstruction phase. Wang emphasized China’s ongoing commitment to helping Sri Lanka grow socially and economically. He expressed China’s willingness to collaborate closely with Sri Lanka on regional and global issues. They also focused on topics from the Prime Minister’s recent visit to China, such as help with school uniforms, fertilizer, digital education, road development, and advancements in education, health, and culture. The meeting ended with both sides agreeing to strengthen their relationship based on trust, understanding, and a long history of friendship, as noted by the Office of the Prime Minister.
