The Cabinet of Ministers in Sri Lanka has approved plans to co-host the Asian Regional Debt Management Conference in 2026. This conference, held annually by the Asian Development Bank, allows debt managers from member countries to exchange experiences in managing public debt, address challenges, and enhance cooperation in the region. Scheduled for four to five days, the 2026 conference will feature surveys and technical workshops focused on debt management issues, challenges, and innovative strategies. Representatives from the Ministry of Finance, central banks, debt management offices, and other relevant institutions from member countries are expected to attend. Hosting this conference will help Sri Lanka gain international recognition in public debt management, strengthen bilateral and regional ties with Asian member nations and financial institutions, and facilitate knowledge sharing and capacity building in debt management. The Cabinet approved this proposal from the President, who is also the Minister of Finance, Planning, and Economic Development, to co-host the event in late May 2026.
