LNP – Do not panic, bikinis allowed
Police denied reports that a new law has been introduced in Arugam Bay banning locals and foreigners from wearing bikinis in public places.
The matter sparked controversy after a post claiming to be from the ‘People of the Local Community in Arugam Bay’ which stated that there was a ban on wearing bikinis in the area.
“Welcome to Arugam Bay! We are delighted to have you here and truly value your visit. To honour our local culture, we kindly request that you avoid wearing bikinis in public spaces. Your respect for our traditions means a lot to our community. Thank you for your understanding, and we hope you enjoy your time in beautiful Arugam Bay!” the post stated.
However, when the Daily Mirror contacted the OIC of the Pottuvil Police, he denied the claim and said there is no such ban in place.
He said the post was shared by an individual and that an investigation had been launched.
