Hillary Clinton to testify in congressional Epstein probe
Hillary Clinton, the former U.S. Secretary of State, is set to testify privately on Thursday before a congressional committee looking into the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. It remains uncertain whether she will reveal any new information. Clinton, who was the Democratic presidential nominee in 2016, has claimed that she does not have much to share and has accused the Republican-led committee of diverting attention from President Donald Trump's connections to Epstein. Epstein took his own life in jail in 2019 while he was awaiting trial on federal sex-trafficking charges. Initially, she and her husband, former Democratic President Bill Clinton, declined to testify before the House of Representatives Oversight Committee but agreed to do so after lawmakers threatened to hold them in contempt of Congress. Hillary Clinton will provide her closed-door testimony at 11 a.m. ET (1600 GMT) in Chappaqua, New York, which is close to their primary residence. Bill Clinton is scheduled to testify at the same time on Friday. A representative for the Clintons did not reply to a request for comments. Committee chairman James Comer, a Republican from Kentucky, stated that transcripts of their interviews will be released to the public. The extent of Hillary Clinton’s connections to Epstein is unclear. Bill Clinton flew on Epstein’s plane multiple times in the early 2000s after his presidency. He has denied any wrongdoing and expressed regret for his association. Comer noted that Epstein visited the White House 17 times during Bill Clinton's presidency.
