SG CM accused of using 14 vehicles

Speaker wants allegation probed

Kegalle District UNP MP Sandith Samarasinghe told Parliament yesterday that the Chief Minister of the Sabaragamuwa Province used official 14 vehicles violating the provisions of government circulars with regard to the use of official vehicles.

The government had paid Rs 9 Mn for the vehicles used by the Chief Minister during 2015, the MP said adding that one of the vehicles belonging to the Provincial Council had been taken into custody by police while transporting ganja.

MP Samarasinghe said so while demanding to know from Minister of Provincial Councils and Local Government Faizer Mustapaha what action the government would take to prevent the gross abuse of the Chief Minister’s powers.

The Minister said that according to the details furnished to him by the Provincial Council, the Chief Minister had been given only three official vehicles. The minister said that the chief minister had been allocated a Toyota jeep, Landrover Discovery and a Volvo car for his persona use.

Speaker Karu Jayasuriya instructed Minister Mustapaha to get the Auditor General’s Department to investigate the allegation of abuse of official vehicles by the Chief Minister while he had been given three vehicles for his use and inform the House of the results of the investigation.
