Showers about 150mm are likely at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-western provinces and showers above 100mm are likely at some places in Galle and Matara districts
This weather forecast is issued by the Department of Meteorology on 15 May 2026 at 5:30 a.m. A low-pressure system located northeast of Sri Lanka remains active. It is predicted to move away from the island within the next 36 hours. Most of the island will see cloudy skies. Occasional showers or thundershowers are likely in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North-western, and Northern provinces, including Anuradhapura, Galle, and Matara districts. After 1:00 p.m., light rain or thundershowers may also occur in a few locations of the Uva and Eastern provinces. The public is urged to take necessary precautions to prevent damage from sudden strong winds and lightning during these thundershowers. Rainfall is expected at various times across the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern, North-western, and Northern provinces.
