Vijitha Herath, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka, spoke on the phone with Abbas Araghchi, the Foreign Minister of Iran. During their conversation, Araghchi thanked the Sri Lankan government for its help in rescuing sailors from the IRIS Dena. He also appreciated the support in returning the bodies of the crew and other Iranian naval personnel to Iran, as stated by the Iranian Embassy in Sri Lanka. Araghchi went on to condemn the actions of the United States and Israel against Iran. He called the attack on the IRIS Dena an "unprecedented war crime" by the U.S. He emphasized that the Iranian people will not forget this serious violation of international humanitarian law and the 1949 Geneva Conventions. He pledged to use all legal and political measures to seek justice against those responsible for this crime. Additionally, both ministers talked about the relationship between Sri Lanka and Iran, as well as regional issues, according to a statement from the Iranian Embassy in Sri Lanka.
