Today, April 23, is the special time for planting tree saplings, according to the Sinhala and Tamil New Year schedule known as ‘Nekath Seettuwa.’ The tree planting ceremony is set to begin at 9:01 a.m. Just a few days ago, on April 14, Sri Lankans celebrated the Sinhala and Tamil New Year, which is a major cultural event throughout the country. Planting tree saplings is the last ritual of the New Year festivities.
