Body found near residence of slain Weligama PS Chairman Lasantha Wickramasekara

Police found a body in a well near the home of the late Weligama Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman, Lasantha Wickramasekara, who was shot dead earlier. On the 20th, the body was pulled from a 35-foot deep well after police received tips. The Matara Acting Magistrate was present during the recovery. Authorities identified the deceased as a 28-year-old from Grandpass. A suspect, thought to know the victim, has been arrested by Midigama Police. Initial investigations suggest that the deceased had a severe drug addiction, and police are looking into whether he was wanted for any offenses. The Acting Magistrate has ordered the body sent to Matara General Hospital for a post-mortem. Midigama Police are continuing their investigation to find out if the death was a murder or due to other reasons.
