Seven police officers injured in wasp attack during raid in Kotmale
Seven police officers from the Kotmale Police Station were hurt in a wasp attack while they were raiding an illegal liquor distillery in the forest reserve in Ramboda, Wedamulla, today (01). According to the police, as the officers were moving through the reserve, they accidentally disturbed a wasp nest on a tree because of very dry weather. This led to a swarm of wasps attacking them, including the Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of the Kotmale Crimes Investigation Division. Indika Lalith, the OIC, confirmed that the officers were injured from wasp stings. After the incident, two ambulances from “1990 Suwa Seriya” were sent to the area near the forest reserve. Two of the seven hurt officers were taken to Kotmale Regional Hospital, while five others in serious condition were transferred to Nuwara Eliya District General Hospital. A hospital representative in Nuwara Eliya reported that three of the injured officers are in critical condition.
