Russia offers support to Sri Lanka amid energy crisis
Russia has offered to supply energy resources like fuel, gas, and coal to Sri Lanka, even during times of crisis. This commitment was announced by the Ministry of Transport, Highways and Urban Development, following a visit by Minister Bimal Ratnayake to Russia where he met with Russian Deputy Minister of Energy Roman Marshavin. Deputy Minister Marshavin also stated that Russia is ready to support various development projects in Sri Lanka. He emphasized that, in light of the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, Russia aims to assist Sri Lanka with its energy supply challenges and will fully support the country’s current fuel needs as well as any future energy shortages. The necessary fuel supplies for April and May could be organized, as mentioned in the statement. The Deputy Minister pointed out the importance of quickly releasing the required fuel stocks and assured that facilities would be set up to support future agreements between Russian companies and the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC). Furthermore, he noted that Russia is prepared to provide the coal needed for Sri Lanka’s energy requirements. The statement concluded by expressing Russia's hope for the successful development of Sri Lanka and its commitment to support the government’s sustainable development efforts.
