Three former DMT officials arrested by Bribery Commission
Three former officials from the Department of Motor Traffic (DMT) have been taken into custody by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) on multiple charges, including fraud related to the registration of several vehicles. The arrest happened this morning, October 26, by CIABOC investigators. 1. One official, a former Development Assistant (Road Safety), is accused of entering data into the DMT system to illegally transfer three vehicles that lacked proper initial registration. 2. Another, a former Investigation Assistant, faces charges for issuing counter numbers to facilitate the illegal transfer of the same three vehicles without valid initial registration at the DMT. 3. The third suspect, a former Assistant Commissioner, is charged with approving the illegal transfer of these three vehicles that did not have a legal initial registration. The individuals arrested will appear before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court.
