The Ceylon Teachers’ Association in Hambantota District has strongly criticized a request from the Zonal Education Office of Tangalle. This request asked for explanations about why teachers did not attend a recent meeting in Tangalle. Suranga Chinthaka, the District Secretary of the Association, told the media that the zonal office should not have acted this way. He pointed out that asking teachers to come on a Sunday was not reasonable. Chinthaka stated, “It was not feasible to call teachers on a Sunday, so we condemn this action. We will keep involving teachers in awareness and decision-making. Teachers have worked hard to create a new era, yet now, they are the ones facing the consequences.” The Zonal Education Office of Tangalle had requested explanations for teachers' absence from a meeting on March 15 at the Tangalle Urban Council, which was led by Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya. The Zonal Director of Education in Tangalle has sent a letter to all school principals, asking for reasons for not attending the meeting to be submitted by today (26).
