Sri Lanka's total exports, which include goods and services, hit US$ 1,401.78 million in February 2026. This marks a solid year-on-year growth of 4.22% compared to February 2025, as reported by the Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB). According to preliminary data from Sri Lanka Customs, along with estimates for Gems & Jewellery and Petroleum Products, merchandise exports rose by 1.32% to US$ 1,066.88 million in February 2026. Services exports also showed strong growth, with estimated earnings of US$ 334.9 million, reflecting a significant 14.68% increase from February 2025. For the period from January to February 2026, total exports are estimated at US$ 2,896.31 million, which is a notable growth of 7.56% compared to the same time frame in 2025. The rise in export earnings underscores the strength of Sri Lanka’s external sector, driven by steady merchandise performance and rapid growth in services exports, according to the EDB. Mangala Wijesinghe, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the EDB, commented on this success, stating, “Sri Lanka’s export earnings for February 2026 reached US$ 1,401.78 million, showing a solid year-on-year growth of 4.22% and indicating a positive trend toward meeting our annual export targets. This performance demonstrates the resilience and growing competitiveness of Sri Lanka’s export sector, supported by the gradual recovery in key international markets, ongoing industrial capacity, and continued export development initiatives. Looking forward, with stronger policy support, increased value addition, and proactive market diversification, Sri Lanka is ready to build on this progress throughout 2026, despite ongoing geopolitical issues and energy market fluctuations.” Further analysis revealed that cumulative merchandise export earnings for January–February 2026 totaled US$ 2,215.63 million, showing a 5.22% increase compared to the same period in 2025. Additionally, services exports experienced robust growth, achieving an estimated 15.95% increase during this period, amounting to US$ 680.68 million.
