The Lankan Private Bus Owners’ Association (LPBOA) has expressed its approval of the new bus fares set by the National Transport Commission (NTC). As a result, regular bus services in Sri Lanka will resume as normal starting tomorrow, the 24th, according to the union's Chairman, Gemunu Wijerathna. The Cabinet of Ministers has approved a 12.19% increase in bus fares, which went into effect at midnight today, the 23rd, as stated by Cabinet Spokesperson Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa. With the new fares, the minimum bus fare will rise from Rs. 27 to Rs. 30, and the maximum fare will increase from Rs. 2,159 to Rs. 2,422. In addition, the NTC has directed all private bus operators and the Sri Lanka Transport Board to adhere to these approved fares. They have also warned that legal action will be taken against anyone who charges passengers more than the approved rates.
